Women in Leadership: #ChooseToChallenge
In celebration of International Women’s Day 2021, the BMCC and Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia proudly presented the “Women in Leadership_Choose to Challenge” webinar on 20 March 2021 to inspire, empower and advocate women leadership.
A vibrant panel comprising London-based general surgeon Dr Amalina Che Bakri, Dr Sumitra Nairof Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), Patrina Tang of TedBoy Bakery, Low Ngai Yuenof WOMEN:girls, and Darina Yusof of Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia engaged in a lively discussion on creating a gender-equal world and shared stories on their personal journeys as successful women leaders in the hour-long webinar.
Jennifer Lopez, Chief Executive Officer of the BMCC, said in her welcome remarks that diversity and inclusion – which encompass not only gender equality but also inclusivity and equality for all – is a key agenda for the BMCC as well as our members. Jennifer also emphasised the BMCC has included a diversity and inclusion award in our Annual Business Excellence Awards, and that the Chamber also plans to rejuvenate the Women Leadership Network as a Diversity and Inclusion interest group to identify programmes and initiatives to inspire, empower and advocate.
In his speech, Abrar A. Anwar, Chairman of the BMCC and Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director of Standard Chartered Malaysia said, “This year’s International Women’s Day theme, Choose to Challenge, resonates with Standard Chartered’s purpose and culture where we view diversity, inclusion and respect for all our colleagues and partners as critical to our success. Our commitment to help women live better lives remains constant. We champion many programmes internally and externally to help girls and women develop skills through purposeful collaboration where we can help them advance and unleash their limitless potential.”
