BMCC Outreach in the Northern Region – PENANG

In 2022, the BMCC made its inaugural stamp in the Northern Region of Malaysia with a networking event at Eastern & Oriental Hotel, Penang. Once an important trading hub with British colonial buildings, Penang has developed rapidly over the years to become one of Malaysia’s vital economic states with a high-income economy with focus on manufacturing, construction and services.

The key objective of BMCC’s outreach into Penang is to connect and establish healthy business relationships with like-minded organisations as well as to discover how the BMCC can strengthen British-Malaysia ties within the state. The BMCC looks to establish a relevant presence to facilitate bilateral-trade and investment in such sectors by addressing members’ value proposition and business matchmaking.

Prince of Wales Island International School

Prince of Wales Island International School offered us their kind hospitality in giving us a tour of their fabulous school and facilities in Penang. The BMCC also got to discuss how we could extend our support to raise the profile and visibility of POWIIS in Malaysia, introducing to them our Guide to UK-Malaysian Education Excellence that we are producing to showcase our members in the education sector.

POWIIS offers a broad and balanced education based on a British-style curriculum for students aged 3 to 19. They employ a highly qualified teaching staff that brings a wealth of experience and have two facilities in Tanjung Bungah (@powiis.tanjungbungah) and Balik Pulau (@powiis_balikpulau).

We’re glad we could also discuss how we could help POWIIS by advocating for more direct flights and visas. We also explored ways we could enrich their students with internship opportunities, creative workshops with our members in event production, and working with them on our ESG Horizons Month next year.
