Northern Powerhouse Virtual Trade Mission To Malaysia

The British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (BMCC) is delighted to partner with the UK Department for International Trade (DIT), to organise a Virtual Trade Mission to Malaysia from 7 September – 30 September 2021 focusing on the technology sector. There are 15 UK companies from the Northern Powerhouse region offering expertise, innovative solutions and digital transformation in smart cities, education, manufacturing and warehouse management systems.


The UK Northern Powerhouse

The North of England accounts for £330 billion GDP and exports over £90 billion worth of goods and services every year. It includes the great cities of Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield and has strong freight, logistics and transport links, including 12 international ports and 7 airports. The region has a long and rich history of innovation and entrepreneurship. Indeed, it has a highly skilled workforce in fields such as engineering, advanced manufacturing, chemicals, materials, sciences and technology. It also offers access to world leading technology and research centres.

The Northern Powerhouse is one of the fastest growing areas in Europe for tech innovation, with outstanding capabilities in high performance computing, artificial intelligence, immersive technologies, fintech, Edtech and e-commerce. Among the world class tech hubs across the North are Digital City in Middlesbrough Tees Valley; MediaCityUK in Salford, Greater Manchester, Sci-Tech Daresbury in Cheshire and the Science Central Helix in Newcastle upon Tyne.
