BMCC Higher Education Forum: International Students Employability
The BMCC recently organised a Higher Education Forum to promote dialogues on higher education and the the barriers and opportunities of employability for international students in Malaysia during and after their studies. Hosted at Sunway University, Sunway Group Founder and Chairman Tan Sri Dr Jeffrey Cheah AO made a special appearance and presented his keynote address on “Making our Graduates Work Ready for the Future” to more than 200 attendees comprising senior business leaders, talent and HR managers, lecturers and students. His Excellency Charles Hay MVO, British High Commissioner to Malaysia was also present at the forum.
Professor Dr. Graham Kendall, BMCC Board Member and Higher Education Committee Chairman, Provost/CEO/Pro-Vice Chancellor to the University of Nottingham Malaysia presented the welcome remarks with Khairul Nizam Jamalus, Principal Assistant Director of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Prof. Graeme Wilkinson, Vice-Chancellor, Sunway University and Dato’ Hamidah Naziadin, Group Chief People Officer, CIMB Group joining him later on for a panel discussion.
The forum concluded with a special ‘Student Voice’ platform with Sarah Deverall, Director, British Council Malaysia moderating the session with two student leaders from the University of Nottingham Malaysia who shared their views of employability from a students’s perspective.
The international education sector in Malaysia has seen tremendous growth in the last two decades. Malaysia is also fast becoming the preferred destination in Southeast Asia among international students, where a number of educational institutions are ranked among the top 200 in the world.
