BMCC and the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education Call for Career Fair Participants

Our 2nd Higher Education Committee meeting of 2024 occurred at our office on 29 August.

Under the leadership of the committee chairman Professor Mushtak Al-Atabi, CEO and Provost of Heriot-Watt University Malaysia, industry leaders, professionals, and stakeholders of various higher education institutions convened to address pressing agendas, exchange ideas, and advocate for positive change in the education landscape.

Career Fair with the Ministry of Higher Education

One of the primary topics of discussion was the committee’s involvement in an upcoming Career Fair the BMCC is organising with the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) — the first-ever career fair dedicated to a business chamber.

  • Career Fair Goals: With access to the Chamber’s network of members in the higher education industry, the event aims to connect British companies in Malaysia with final-year students from Malaysian universities and offer them full-time job and internship possibilities. This will cultivate Malaysia’s talent pool, build networking opportunities for both students and industry professionals, as well as enhance British-Malaysian collaboration in the business community and education institutions.
  • Event Programme: The programme plans to consist of panel speaking sessions and forums focusing on helping students understand trends in skills and employability. Dedicated spaces for CV and interview clinics, and career counselling have also been arranged to help fresh graduates navigate employment
  • Call for Participants: We invite BMCC member companies operating in Malaysia to participate as exhibitors, sponsors, or speakers at the career fair. This event presents the opportunity for brand visibility with exhibition booths that showcase your organisation’s identity and services.

The Chamber greatly looks forward to seeing the Career Fair fostering professional development and strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations. If you are interested in participating or knowing more about the Career Fair, please contact Yoong@bmcc.org.my or Asyraf@bmcc.org.my.

Advocacy for Mental Wellbeing

The Higher Education Committee has also devised an initiative to improve mental health awareness in institutions of learning. With the support of the British Council in Malaysia and the British High Commission of Kuala Lumpur, we plan to host an event that upholds and exemplifies our commitment to enhancing our workplaces and learning environments.

As our committee firmly values prioritising health to achieve excellence, the event will seek to share best practices for improving the mental health of students and staff for academic success and overall well-being.

It will be held on 16 October 2024, so save the date!

The Committee is rallying the support of our members and external stakeholders to participate in this. This event would be of particular interest to representatives serving academic or operations functions in higher education institutions.
