Unlocking the Value of Generative AI in the Workplace on 25 August 2025

AI is moving at lightning speed, and the big question taking centre stage is now is how do we make the most of it without letting it take over? That was the starting point of our recent event, where speakers shared both the opportunities and challenges of bringing Generative AI into the workplace.
After opening remarks from Nic Chambers, Managing Director of Michael Page Malaysia and Chair of BMCC’s Talent Network, David Appleton, Capabilities Business Manager at BAE Systems Digital Intelligence, kicked things off with the technical side of AI—how it’s built, managed, and scaled. From getting data strategies right to navigating governance and risk (including the EU AI Act), he highlighted what it really takes to put AI into action.
Shifting to the people side, Michael Heaney, Partner and Head of FS Business Consulting Practice at Ernst & Young, explored how AI can help teams stay relevant, innovative, and productive. He spoke about the rise of AI chatbots, the importance of making them ethical and transparent, and shared an EY.ai case study showing how AI is already helping businesses work smarter.
In the fireside chat, the panel dug into AI’s impact across industries—from smart factories to Malaysia’s own ILMU Chat. The conversation also touched on big-picture issues like data handling, government oversight, and how different generations are adapting to change.
Main takeaway? AI has huge potential, but businesses need to keep compliance, risk frameworks, and data privacy front and centre—and think of AI as a cross-functional tool that supports people, not one that works in isolation.
