Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur | Welcome the New Year with a Taste of Tradition at Zipangu by Nadaman

Welcome the New Year with the timeless elegance of Japanese culinary traditions at Zipangu by Nadaman at Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur. Chef Takizawa presents two exceptional dining experiences that embody the spirit of renewal and prosperity. Indulge in the meticulously curated OSECHI bento box, available from 1 December 2024 to 31 January 2025, or the New Year’s Special Course, offered for lunch and dinner on 31 December 2024 and 1 January 2025.

Crafted with care and steeped in meaning, these offerings embody the essence of Japanese New Year, blending exquisite flavours with heartfelt symbolism to wish diners health, happiness, and prosperity for the year ahead.

OSECHI, a centuries-old tradition, celebrates renewal and good fortune, with each ingredient carrying special significance. The golden chestnuts with sweet potato paste represent financial prosperity, while black beans signify health and strength. Simmered root vegetables, deeply grounded in the soil, represent enduring happiness. Herring roe, abundant with eggs, symbolises fertility and family prosperity, while red and white fish cakes cheerfully mark celebrations. Sweet rolled omelette, resembling ancient scrolls, conveys wishes for academic success, while candied sardines reflect hopes for a bountiful harvest.

Complementing the OSECHI bento is a hearty bowl of Hokkaido’s Teppo miso soup, offering warmth and comfort, alongside a luxurious rice bowl crowned with premium salmon, salmon roe, tender scallops, and fresh sea urchin. This thoughtfully crafted menu captures the spirit of celebration and gratitude, bringing tradition to the forefront of modern dining priced at RM 280 per person.

Enhance your celebrations with the New Year’s Special Course, a harmonious blend of traditional flavours and seasonal delicacies, priced at RM 380 per person. The course begins with vibrant OSECHI hors d’oeuvre, showcasing symbolic dishes such as sweet rolled omelette for academic success, herring roe for prosperity, and candied sardines for a bountiful harvest. Highlights include the ZONI clear soup with chicken and grilled rice cake, fresh cuts of sashimi, and perfectly grilled black cod marinated with Saikyo miso, paired with miso glazed eggplant. Chef Takizawa’s interpretation of ZONI brings this timeless tradition to life, offering diners a heartfelt taste of Japanese heritage as they welcome 2025. The meal concludes with a delicate matcha ice cream and red bean monaka, delivering a satisfying balance of creamy and crisp textures.

Chef Takizawa, a master of Japanese cuisine with over two decades of expertise, draws from his deep roots in traditional culinary arts to create an OSECHI experience that balances authenticity and creativity. His meticulous approach ensures that each dish tells a story, allowing diners to connect with the rich heritage of Japanese New Year while savouring its exceptional flavours.
