The BMCC travelled to Johor for a special visit to the University of Reading. A session was conducted for the benefit of the students present, with BMCC Executive Director, Jennifer Lopez sharing her experience and advise in a segment themed “Defining Leadership and Charting Paths to Success.” The session also featured a presentation by several students from the University of Reading’s Henley Business School who had interned with the BMCC’s Executive Office in Kuala Lumpur, where they shared their stories, lessons and gains from their summer internship experience.
Earlier that morning, the BMCC sat down for a catch-up meeting with University of Reading Malaysia (UoRM) Provost & CEO, Dr Wing Lam and his team. Located at Educity, Iskandar Puteri Johor, UoRM is the first overseas campus of the University of Reading in the UK, a world-renowned teaching and research institution. Within UoRM is the Henley Business School, offering a range of business degrees and is the only business school in Malaysia with triple accreditation and live trading facility for financial studies.
Back in September 2017, the BMCC entered into an agreement with the University of Reading, allowing students to intern with us as part of their extra-curricular activities. This represented the BMCC’s first outstation initiative, and is known today as the BMCC-Reading Future Leaders Club, providing students the opportunity to engage with industry leaders, build networks and enhance leadership skills.
After an afternoon at the University of Reading, the BMCC held a casual networking session that evening at the George & Dragon Cafe with fellow members based in Johor, several who travelled there, along with some new faces outside the Chamber membership. With the assistance of our interns from the BMCC-Reading Future Leaders Club, we were delighted to host this get-together to catch up with our members and new companies there. With several more events planned, the BMCC will return to Johor!
