Fostering a Culture of Integrity: Engaging Businesses in Anti-Corruption Practices

The event Fostering a Culture of Integrity: Engaging Businesses in Anti-Corruption Practices was organised by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was hosted at the office of Knight Frank. The event was also supported by the British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (BMCC) and other participating chambers. The keynote speaker, Westmoreland Anak Ajom, Investigation Officer and Head of the Private Sector Branch within MACC’s Community Education Division, shared practical insights into strengthening anti-corruption practices in the business sector. He highlighted the importance of segregating responsibilities across investigation, prosecution and sentencing to uphold fairness and integrity in enforcement.
The session also clarified the difference between gratification and corruption, outlined key offences under Malaysian anti-corruption laws, and introduced the concept of adequate procedures as a vital compliance measure. The talk reinforced the importance of collaboration between public bodies and the private sector in cultivating a strong culture of integrity and accountability.
