UK GREEN INVESTMENT LANDSCAPE: OUTLOOK FOR MALAYSIAN INVESTORS

The economic fallout as a result of COVID-19 has demonstrated the importance of environment, social and governance (ESG) factors in amplifying investment returns. Over the past year, across the globe, assets allocated for ESG investment have outperformed the mainstream market.

Investors globally, including informed investors in Malaysia, are increasingly becoming aware of ESG investing for sustainable value creation, preferring to invest in companies with high sustainability ratings as it allows them to understand the vulnerabilities, risks and opportunities to businesses.

The UK, as one of the first countries in the world with a target to reach net zero emissions by 2050, has set a strong commitment to deliver a greener financial system. The UK financial sector represents a substantial commercial opportunity to lead the way into transitioning to a low carbon economy.

The BMCC, in collaboration with the British High Commission Kuala Lumpur, is delighted to have the Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alderman William Russell, and a panel of subject matter experts share insights on the strategic role of green finance in mitigating climate change and generating investment returns. The session will also highlight the growing opportunities for investment in the UK’s green sectors, a key priority for the UK, as president designate for COP26 in Glasgow this year.
