Built Environment Committee

The BMCC Built Environment Committee comprises member companies from across the built environment sector, including construction, architecture, engineering, property development, consultancy, and building materials supply.
The Committee serves as a platform for collaboration and knowledge sharing, with a strong emphasis on exchanging best practices between the UK and Malaysia. It is committed to promoting the development of greener, more sustainable cities, while facilitating engagement with key government stakeholders, including the Ministry of Works (KKR) and the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB).

Landslide Risk Assessment Sharing Session
BMCC’s Built Environment Committee recently hosted a workshop with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and the British Geological Survey (BGS) to discuss advancements in landslide risk assessment and resilience planning.

1st Meeting in 2026
We kicked off our first Built Environment Committee meeting of the year by bringing members together to explore how the sector can drive environmental sustainability and reduce carbon emissions through smarter design and technology adoption.

1st Meeting in 2025
Our Built Environment Committee gathered for the first meeting in 2025 at HL Design to discuss priorities for the year and appoint a new Deputy Chair.

Meeting with CIDB
Our Built Environment Committee had a great meeting with CIDB Malaysia at the end of March, discussing future collaboration for ICW 2025 to showcase UK-Malaysian best practices in the built environment field.

2nd Meeting in 2025
Our Built Environment Committee held its second meeting of the year, led by Committee Chair Martin Haeger MBE, Director of HL Design Group, alongside Deputy Chair Lau Ching Luan, Principal and Malaysia Country Leader at Arup.

Shaping Sustainable Cities: A Fireside Chat with the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur
On 23 September, we were honoured to host YBhg. Dato’ Seri TPr (Dr.) Maimunah binti Mohd Sharif, the 15th Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, as our distinguished speaker in a dialogue session titled “Shaping a Sustainable City: A Conversation with the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur”, held at Menara IQ, TRX.

BMCC at International Construction Week & BuildXpo 2025
The BMCC’s Built Environment Committee made a powerful impression at this year’s International Construction Week (ICW) and Malaysia International Building and Construction Industry Exhibition (BuildXpo) 2025, held from 28 to 30 October at MITEC.

Building Green and Sustainable Practices for the Construction and Property Industry
We organised an insightful event at the Knight Frank office, bringing together industry leaders from Knight Frank, PwC, and HL Design Group. The showcase explored and discussed the latest trends and strategies for achieving ESG goals within the construction and property industry.

Engagement with Johor State Government
The BMCC, led by our CEO, Jennifer Lopez and Martin Haeger MBE, BMCC Board member and Chair of the Built Environment Committee, had the privilege of engaging in a productive dialogue with YB Lee Ting Han, Johor State EXCO Member for Investment, Trade, Consumer Affairs & Human Resources.
