The British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce Berhad (BMCC) conducted its 7th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 24 June 2025 at EQ Hotel Kuala Lumpur.

The AGM commenced with an official opening by Chairman Mak Joon Nien, the Managing Director & CEO of Standard Chartered Malaysia. He presented the Chamber’s performance in 2024, including financial position, membership status, and key highlights.

2024 was a breakthrough year marked by innovation, resilience, and renewed momentum. We closed the year on a high, delivering our strongest financial performance to date — driven by robust member engagement and a dynamic calendar of activities.

In 2024, BMCC saw a 39% increase in membership subscription revenue, driven by the introduction of new premium tiers — Gold and Emerald. We delivered a record 53 events (up from 35 in 2023), with 46 offered complimentary to members. On the government relations front, we achieved 106 engagements (a 71% rise from 2023), underscoring our growing role as a trusted voice in UK-Malaysia bilateral relations.

A key milestone in 2024 was our move to the new BMCC office in Menara IQ, TRX. This move was made with our members in mind—a hub for our members to host events, connect, and drive growth. The new office is a reflection of the Chamber’s expanding influence, made possible through the unwavering support of our members.

He is a visionary leader and national advisor on AI talent strategy, TVET transformation, and regulatory innovation, with a proven track record of aligning workforce development with Malaysia’s economic, digital, and sustainability goals. With over 22 years of leadership across industry and public sector committees, he brings a unique 360° perspective to solving structural challenges such as talent retention, skills mismatch, and inclusive employment.
