BMCC Hosts Exclusive Briefing Session with Dr. Fergus Cumming, Deputy Chief Economist at the FCDO

The BMCC was honoured to welcome Dr. Fergus Cumming, Deputy Chief Economist at the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), for an exclusive, closed-door briefing session held at the Chamber’s office on 5 August 2025.

Held in conjunction with Dr. Cumming’s official visit to Malaysia, the high-level session convened principal representatives from our premium members, consisting of CEOs and business leaders for an in-depth discussion on navigating economic risks and bolstering resilience in today’s increasingly volatile global landscape.

Drawing from his work at the heart of the UK government’s economic decision-making, Dr. Cumming shared expert insights into the current UK economic outlook, key policy directions, and the UK’s approach to economic security. The dialogue also explored wider macroeconomic trends, geopolitics, and the role of international collaboration in safeguarding growth and preserving rules-based trade.

The interactive session, which included a lively Q&A, fostered valuable exchanges of perspectives between Dr. Cumming and our members, with discussions focused on the potential effects on various areas of industry, and how to best approach these economic changes.

We extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Fergus Cumming for his time, insights, and thoughtful engagement with the BMCC business community.
