BMCC Built Environment Committee holds Landslide Risk Assessment Sharing Session

BMCC’s Built Environment Committee recently hosted a workshop with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and the British Geological Survey (BGS) to discuss advancements in landslide risk assessment and resilience planning.
Moderated by Martin Haeger MBE of HL Design Group and BMCC Board Member, the session introduced the TRIGGER (Trigger Index for Rainfall-Induced Landslide Risk Assessment for Enhanced Resilience) project under the UK Government’s Climate Action for a Resilient Asia (CARA) programme. Speakers shared how integrated datasets and machine learning can help estimate landslide risks and potential losses, supporting more resilient urban planning and infrastructure development.
The session also highlighted SlopeWatch, a community-based initiative that strengthens public awareness and preparedness for landslide incidents, demonstrating the importance of combining technical expertise with community engagement.
Participants included representatives from BMCC Members: HL Design Group, British High Commission of Kuala Lumpur, Prudential, Mott MacDonald, NXS Design, and Tony Gee & Partners.
