Malaysia’s Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI) was mandated by the Government to develop and drive IoT as a new source of growth in catalyzing the country’s Digital Economy.

In July 2016, the National IoT Strategic Roadmap was launched, with an expectation of the country’s IoT developments to contribute USD 1.2 billion to the country’s Gross National Income (GNI) by 2025.

Utilizing LPWAN technology, Cyberjaya in Selangor is touted to be the first smart city in ASEAN connected by a LoRa network. In driving the Smart Nation vision, the Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU) is currently building a single government portal that will give access to information and services from across local and federal agencies.

With IoT growing to be an integral part of the digital economy, agriculture, healthcare, manufacturing and transportation are sectors that are identified to have the most potential for IoT deployment.

IoT Malaysia is an annual event held in Kuala Lumpur. With a focus on local telecommunication companies and enterprises in key verticals, the event offers Southeast Asia’s most comprehensive program for solution providers targeting enterprise adoption of Internet of Things (IoT) and Machine-to-Machine (M2M) technologies in Malaysia. With over 1800 attendees participating in the Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Bangkok and Hanoi editions in 2016, the event will return for the fourth year in a row to Kuala Lumpur.
